First University Course "Motor Activities Applied to Circus Arts"

The transmission of circus becomes a university course

The Course of Study in Sport Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Rome "Tor Vergata", in collaboration with the Association Jugglers and Surroundings, inaugurated the "1st Degree Course for the Study of Motor Activities Applied to Circus Arts" (October 2009/giugno 2010). The course, first of its kind in Italy, said the opening of the academic interest to the transmission of circus arts, ancient and noble art, which combines the thrill of athletic movement to the emotion of the artistic interpretation.
The charm of the circus arts and their practice, traditionally reserved for artists from circus families and professional schools, has won at the end of the twentieth century a wide audience and spread as a hobby among all age groups, in subjects with different cultural backgrounds and backgrounds, and has become one of the most innovative proposals for motor activity of the moment. This interest has stimulated the emergence in Europe of hundreds of amateur arts circus school, where boys and girls are guided by teachers of circus arts, united by the desire to pass on their skills. An entire industry that now has national and international federations, training for teachers, intensive studies and exchanges for the development of a pedagogy of the circus. Taking a cue from professional training adopted in France, Belgium, Finland, Holland and Germany from the main national associations of circus arts for children and teens, and through collaboration with the Course of Study in Kinesiology Tor Vergata, have been identified for this course a number of skills that are fully included in the curriculum of Professional Circus Arts for Children and Youth. Comprising 240 hours of lectures taught by professors from the University of Tor Vergata and circus arts experts, the course provides to obtain the latest general knowledge, and pedagogical techniques for the transmission of the circus.
This project is part of a research and promotion that the Ass. Jugglers and surroundings, together with other stakeholders, many of which are directly involved in the course, leading in Italy for more than a decade. Moreover, considering the vocation of universities university attention will be given to elements in the course of research in the world of circus arts, a very interesting and unexplored field for study and development of motor skills.
